SUMMARY:Jacksonville “Walk Through History” Tour
DESCRIPTION:Walk through Jacksonville History!  \nJACKSONVILLE\, OR—Jacksonville’s “Walk through History” tours are back!  At 10 a.m. every Saturday from May 30th through September 5th\, Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. will be offering one-hour guided walks through Jacksonville’s National Historic Landmark District\, the first on the West Coast!  Participants will take a stroll through history\, visiting government and commercial buildings\, fraternal lodges\, and homes that capture the stories of the people who transformed a gold rush town into Southern Oregon’s 19th Century social\, governmental\, and commercial hub. They’ll learn how gambling money built a church; how the Civil War ended a successful mercantile partnership; how a saloon housed the county’s first museum; how fire reshaped the town; and how a railroad both destroyed the town and preserved it.  \nWalking tours leave from Jacksonville’s New City Hall (the historic “Courthouse Square”) at 206 North 5th Street between West C and D streets and cover about one mile with multiple stops.   Tours are FREE but donations are encouraged!  All monies go towards the preservation and maintenance of Jacksonville’s historic buildings.  \nFor individuals who prefer not to “stretch their legs\,” Historic Jacksonville’s website (https://www.historicjacksonville.org) offers numerous ways to explore Jacksonville virtually.  These include multiple blogs about the town and its settlers along with three video tours that introduce viewers to Jacksonville’s Historic Landmark District\, its Historic Homes\, and its Pioneer Cemetery.    \nHistoric Jacksonville\, Inc. invites you to forget the “names\, dates\, places\, and battles” version of history you may have been taught in school.  HJI’s live and virtual tours are about “real history”—people and their stories. They are about life!  \nAdditional information on “Walk through History” and other Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. tours is available at 541-245-3650; info@historicjacksonville.org; and www.historicjacksonville.org. \n

SUMMARY:Britt to Honor Founder John Trudeau with Stage Dedication and Community Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Jacksonville\, OR – Monday\, April 27\, 2026: This summer\, Britt will host a special community event\, Honoring Britt’s Founder: A Dedication and Picnic Celebration\, recognizing the life and legacy of founder and longtime music director John Trudeau\, whose vision helped establish Britt as a cultural cornerstone of Southern Oregon. \nThe celebratory evening will take place on Tuesday\, June 23 at 5:30 PM the Britt hill\, where community members\, members of the Trudeau family\, Britt alumni\, and friends will gather to reflect on the lasting impact of John Trudeau and the important role he and his wife\, Elizabeth “Betty” Trudeau\, played in shaping the organization. \nThrough shared stories and time together on the grounds\, guests will learn more about the Trudeau family’s legacy; from the Festival’s earliest days\, to the creation of the Britt Pavilion\, the growth of education programs\, and the development of the internationally respected Britt Festival Orchestra. The evening will conclude with a picnic supper under the trees\, and attendees are invited to remain on site for the Orchestra’s evening rehearsal at 8 PM. \nAs part of the celebration\, the Britt Pavilion Stage will be formally dedicated as the S. John and Elizabeth Trudeau Stage\, marking a meaningful milestone in Britt’s history. The dedication will also be recognized publicly during the Britt Festival Orchestra concert on June 27. \n“Britt Festival is woven into the very fabric of the Trudeau family’s life and legacy. We are deeply touched that this commemoration will celebrate our father John Trudeau\, its founder and 25-year music director\, and our mother Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Trudeau\, who shared his devotion to Britt and worked tirelessly at his side in service to music and community. Dedicating the Britt Pavilion Stage to honor them means the world to us.” said John and Elizabeth Trudeau’s children\, George Trudeau\, Jeannette Coil\, Stephanie Hulcher\, and Jennifer Graylands. \n“John and Betty Trudeau helped build the foundation of what Britt is today\,” said Abby McKee\, President & CEO of Britt Music & Arts Festival. “Their dedication to artistic excellence\, education\, and community connection continues to shape our mission. It is a privilege to honor their legacy in a lasting and visible way.” \nTickets for the June 23 event and the full Britt Festival Orchestra season are available through Britt’s box office and website at britt.org.
