SUMMARY:Magnolia Hotel Grand Re-Opening Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to an open house to celebrate the re-opening of the renovated Magnolia Inn\, now the Magnolia Hotel. Over the last few months\, new owners\, Jeff and Nikki Bale\, have been busy converting the previous owner’s living area into three additional guest rooms\, opening walls and adding access for guests to the backyard. New hardwood floors\, wool carpet\, hemlock doors\, and beautiful furnishings will welcome travelers as they settle into this expansive\, yet cozy\, Spanish Revival property.\n \nJeff\, who spent over a decade leading operations at Redfin\, and Nikki\, a small business consultant\, have been remodeling and developing real estate for years. Coming from Bend\, they dreamt of overseeing a small hotel since they first started dating in college more than 20 years ago. The couple is thrilled to be joining the Jacksonville community and adding their own chapter to the storied history of the Magnolia.\n \nThe Magnolia Hotel will re-open in March. Jeff and Nikki would love for you to join them on Thursday\, March 23rd for a Grand Re-Opening celebration event from 5-8pm at 245 N. 5th Street. Everyone is invited to tour the rooms and enjoy some wine & cheese.

SUMMARY:SOCAN General Meeting on Zoom - Food Waste and the Climate Crisis: What to know & what to do
DESCRIPTION:Food Waste and theClimate Crisis: What to know & what to do \nIn 2022\, the U.S. department of Agriculture stated: “Food loss and waste …exacerbates the climate crisis with its significant GHG footprint. Production\,transportation\, and handling of food generate significant carbon dioxide (CO2)emissions\, and when food ends up in landfills\, it generates methane\, an even more potent greenhouse gas.” \nA 2021 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report concluded that “eachyear\, U.S. food loss and waste embodies 170 million metric tons of climatepollution– equal to the annual CO2 emissions of 42 coal-fired powerplants.” This doesn’t even take landfill methane into account. \nTo learn more about food waste and what we can do to address it\, joinSouthern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) at their March 28thGeneral Meeting online from 6:00 to 7:00pm. This month’s topic is “Food Wasteand the Climate Crisis: What to Know & What to Do” with featured speakers FlaviaFranco of Southern Oregon Food Solutions\, Jeanette Hardison of the CorvallisSustainability Coalition\, and Ellie Cosgrove of Rogue Valley Farm 2 School. \nThere is no charge for joining the ZOOM meeting\, but participants mustregister at the link on the SOCAN calendar event: socan.eco/food-waste. \nIn response to the food waste problem April 10 – 16 has been designatedas ‘Food Waste Prevention Week’ nationwide. In order to raise awareness and toengage with folks about solutions. Oregon’s Department of Environmental Qualityis a sponsor of this campaign. \n

SUMMARY:Poet Peter Yeager Meet & Greet and Signing at Rebel Heart Books
DESCRIPTION:                \nJacksonville resident Peter E. Yeager recently published Searching for Sanctuary: The Journey Home. Yeager’s poems track his life from growing up in New Jersey through retirement in Oregon. Poet and poetry editor Amy Miller calls the book\, “part poetic memoir\, part travelogue of the soul.” \nWith emotional honesty\, Peter explores family\, friendships\, courtship\, marriage\, divorce\, and re-marriage; marvels at natural wonders; and pokes at human foibles. Yeager’s verse unlocks faith and nature and marks our changing culture. He also praises other poets and their poems. \nAward-winning poet Luci Shaw finds some of the poems\, “quietly meditative” and many “crackling with specific detail and sense impressions.” The book is available locally at Rebel Heart Books and Art Presence Art Center. \nApril is National Poetry Month. Yeager will do a meet & greet and signing at Rebel Heart Books\, April 8\, 2-4pm\, and a poetry reading and signing at Art Presence Art Center\, April 29\, 2-4pm. \nPeter E. Yeager holds degrees in English and Law from Rutgers. He can be reached at peteryeager@gmail.com.
