DESCRIPTION:Salem 2023; What’sUp?  \nThe April SOCAN General meeting – our first in-person meeting since theCOVID crisis – will feature members of the SOCAN Federal and State project teamreporting on which legislative proposals are alive\, which are not\, and whatclimate conscious Oregonians can do to help those proposals that deserve oursupport.   \nAfter a hard-fought race for Governor in 2022\, a campaign in which shehighlighted support for climate action\, Tina Kotek was triumphant against twocandidates who both campaigned against climate action. Although the climatecrisis is non-partisan\, the Democratic Party as a whole embraced climate actionwhile the opposition campaigned against it. The 2023 Legislative session inSalem reflects this dichotomy. By late April\, we’ll know which proposals have achance for passage\, and which have none; we will know which proposals aremoving and could use rural Oregonian help\, and which are not.  \nThe program will beheld at the Medford Public Library on Tuesday April 25th from 6:00to 7:30 pm.  There is no charge forattending.

DESCRIPTION:                \nJacksonville resident Peter E. Yeager recently published Searching for Sanctuary: The Journey Home. Yeager’s poems track his life from growing up in New Jersey through retirement in Oregon. Poet and poetry editor Amy Miller calls the book\, “part poetic memoir\, part travelogue of the soul.” \nWith emotional honesty\, Peter explores family\, friendships\, courtship\, marriage\, divorce\, and re-marriage; marvels at natural wonders; and pokes at human foibles. Yeager’s verse unlocks faith and nature and marks our changing culture. He also praises other poets and their poems. \nAward-winning poet Luci Shaw finds some of the poems\, “quietly meditative” and many “crackling with specific detail and sense impressions.” The book is available locally at Rebel Heart Books and Art Presence Art Center. \nApril is National Poetry Month. Yeager will do a meet & greet and signing at Rebel Heart Books\, April 8\, 2-4pm\, and a poetry reading and signing at Art Presence Art Center\, April 29\, 2-4pm. \nPeter E. She has a Practice Leader Certificate from the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi\, and has been leading practice groups for six years. DESCRIPTION:Wildfire Community PreparednessDay is a national Firewise campaign to raise awareness and reduce risks fromwildfires. Jacksonville is vulnerable to wildfires due to manyhomes being located in close proximity to woodlands and forests. Because ofsevere drought and upcoming extremely hot weather\, this summer and early fallpromise to be a bad year for severe wildfires.  \nJacksonville’s Wildfire Community Preparedness Day isSaturday\, May 6\, 9am-2pm in the D Street Parking lot. Residents of Jacksonville may bring branches and othervegetation to be chipped and disposed of by the Oregon Department of Forestry(ODF). Two dumpsters will be available\, one for small vegetation debris\, andone for debris that needs to be chipped. Members of the Jacksonville CommunityEmergency Response Team (CERT) coordinate and manage the event in conjunctionwith the Jacksonville Fire Department.  \nJacksonvillehas 32 Firewise neighborhoods: Westmont\, Gold Terrace\,Royal Mobile Estates\, Vineyard View\,Vintage\, G Street\, Valley Lane\, Jackson/Creekside\, North/South 3rd\, BrittGardens Neighborhood\, Rich Gulch\, Timber Ridge\, Applegate/Graham\, Hangman Way\,Pheasant Meadows\, Hill Street\, Brookview\, Wagon Trail\, Gold Terrace Heights\,Whippleville\, Applegate Fireflies JVille East\, Beekman Square\, Fire Station\, PonderosaWay\, S 4th St.\, Nunan Square\, Laurelwood Drive\, Stagecoach\, Chainsaw\, Coachman\,and Daisy Creek. \nPleasetake advantage of this opportunity to dispose of branches\, dead trees\, and deadshrubs found on your property. DESCRIPTION:The Jackson County Master Gardener™ Association is proud to announce the 2023 Spring Garden Fair on Saturday\, May 6\, from 9am-3pm\, at the OSU Extension\, 569 Hanley Road\, Central Point.  The largest gardening event in Southern Oregon\, this year marks the return of many perennial vendors who have stood by through the COVID years. Plant Clinic volunteers who can diagnose and advise solutions to gardening problems will be on hand\, as well.  The Native plant nursery will be selling a variety of native plants\, with other plants grown by student volunteers including vegetable plants and herbs.
