SUMMARY:City of Jacksonville - Public Hearing Regarding Code Updates for Parking & Tree Removal
DESCRIPTION:Notice of Public Hearing Regarding code updates for Parking & Tree Removal\n \nThe City of Jacksonville Planning Commission is holding a public hearing to review the Citizen Advisory Committee’s recommended code updates to parking standards and the tree removal process.\n \nJuly 12th\, 2023\, 6:00 PM\n206 N Fifth St\, City Hall\, Second Floor Assembly Room\n \nParking: Recent regulations from DLCD mandate cities reexamine on-site parking requirements required for new development. These reforms mandate certain assisted living or shelter facilities are no longer required to provide on-site parking\, as well as require at most 1 parking space per unit for multi-unit developments.\n \nTree removal: In light of SB 762 and recent wildfires\, citizens may wish to create more defensible and fire-wise\nspaces. These reforms increase the overall efficiency of the process\, including adding specific nuisance species.

SUMMARY:Southern Oregon Lavender Trail: Lavender Festival Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon Lavender Trail: Lavender Festival Weekend\n \nSummer’s Spectacular Lavender Blooms—Every June and July\, visitors are drawn to the stunning\, multi-sensory experience that our Jacksonville area lavender farms provide. The soft fragrance\, the fields of fierce violet\, along with the many colorful bumblebees and butterflies make the experience worth celebrating. But it only lasts 6 to 8 weeks\, so… you have to pay attention. \nLuckily\, the Southern Oregon Lavender Trail (southernoregonlavendertrail.com) schedules two lavender festivals to make it easy to remember when all that beauty is happening. This year’s lavender festival dates are Friday\, June 23 through Sunday\, June 25 and Friday\, July 14 through Sunday\, July 16—hours are 10am to 5pm on festival days. \nEach farm has different activities and events planned for the lavender festival days. They often include U-Cut fresh lavender bouquets\, food\, drinks\, snacks\, local artisans\, local wineries and live music. Check each farm’s social media page for the full details of what they have planned. Admission to both festivals is free and this year there are six lavender farms and nurseries participating: \n  \nApplegate River Lavender Farm \n375 Hamilton Road\, Jacksonville \n541-702-2250\, applegateriverlavender.com \n  \nDos Mariposas Vineyards & Lavender \n3976 Bellinger Ln\, Medford\, 541-224-7881 \ndosmariposasvineyards.com/lavender \nGoodwin Creek Gardens \n970 Cedar Flat Road\, Williams \n541-846-7357\, goodwincreekgardens.com \n  \nKingfisher Farm \n7717 Upper Applegate Road\, Jacksonville \n541-702-2019\, kingfisherlavenderfarm.com \n  \nLavender Ally Farm \n5734 Pleasant Creek Road\, Rogue River \n541 582-8998\, lavenderally.com \n  \nThe English Lavender Farm \n8040 Thompson Creek Rd\, Applegate \n541-846-0375\, englishlavenderfarm.com \n  \nDownload a festival map and description of each farm at southernoregonlavendertrail.com.

SUMMARY:Parkinson’s Support/Care Group - Pioneer Village Media Room
DESCRIPTION:Our Parkinson’s Support/Care group meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at Pioneer Village at 2:00pm on their Media (tv) room. \n\nParkinson’s Support/Care Group – Where Balance Flows Openly \n \nIn December of 2014\, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). As the Neurologist explained my options\, my wife Kerry rubbed my back in an attempt to soften the blow. It didn’t work! The doctors words were inaudible to me. I looked into Kerry eyes and whispered\, “I knew it was Parkinson’s.” I was now experiencing the first of the 5 stages of grief: denial. Months later things would drastically change.  \n \nThere was a gentleman at our church (Ron) who had advanced Parkinson’s\, I tried to avoid him at all costs\, for fear of seeing myself in the not so distant future. In my ignorance I was intimidated by his dyskinesia. A few Sundays later\, Kerry walked up to me and said\, “Richard\, this is Ron.”  After a firm hand shake and five minutes of conversation\, I found myself somehow firmly planted into Stage 5 of grief: acceptance. Stage 2 (anger)\, Stage 3 (bargaining) and  Stage 4 (depression) were now buried deep into the past.  \n \nMy Pastor\, Larry Jung\, approached me one Sunday and suggested I start a support group for those with Parkinson’s\, and their caregivers. Kerry and I started a PD support group in our living room.  \n \nMy church\, 1st Presbyterian of Jacksonville\, became our group’s sponsor and Pioneer Village Senior Living facility donated their Media (TV) room for our bi-monthly gatherings. Remember\, we have big ears for listening and broad shoulders for leaning on. \n \nIf you have Parkinson’s or are a Caregiver for someone with PD\, you are welcome to join us at 2:00pm\, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at Pioneer Village\, 805 N. 5th St.\, Jacksonville\, OR.\, 97530 (541) 702-4521.  \n \nRichard S.
