SUMMARY:Jacksonville's Wildfire Community Preparedness Day
DESCRIPTION:JACKSONVILLE’S WILDFIRE Community Preparedness Day is back this October—with a new self-serve format. The event will take place on Saturday\, October 3\, from 9am-noon in the D Street Parking Lot. Please note: This year’s event will not include a chipper and no assistance will be provided for unloading materials. Residents are invited to bring branches and yard debris (6 feet or shorter) for disposal. Five dumpsters will be available for clean\, woody debris and yard waste. Participants must unload their own materials and are asked to place debris at the back of the dumpsters.The event is coordinated by the Jacksonville Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in collaboration with the Jacksonville Fire Department. Wildfire Community Preparedness Days help raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks. Jacksonville remains especially vulnerable due to the number of homes located near woodlands and forested areas. Residents are encouraged to take proactive steps such as: \n\nRemoving dead vegetation and debris\nTrimming flammable trees and shrubs near structures\nPruning tree limbs to keep lower branches 6–10 feet off the ground\nClearing roofs\, gutters\, and yards of dry leaves and pine needles\n\nTake advantage of this opportunity to protect your home and help make Jacksonville a safer\, more fire-resilient community. Questions?
