Community Meeting: Jacksonville Wildfire Protection Project

November 10, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Community Meeting: Jacksonville Wildfire Protection Project

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2022 AT 6 PM – 8 PM

Jacksonville City Hall, 2nd Floor, 206 N Fifth Street Jacksonville, OR 9753

Please join us to learn about the Jacksonville Community Wildfire Protection Project — a strategic, ecologically-minded restoration project to reduce the threat of wildfire within and around Jacksonville through fuels reduction treatments on private and municipal lands.

The City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Woodlands Association, and the local FireWise communities have joined forces with the Rogue Forest Partners, including Lomakatsi Restoration Project, local OSU Extension, and Southern Oregon Forest Restoration Collaborative, on this effort.

Together they have raised over $1.5 million to assist landowners and the City of Jacksonville in reducing wildfire risk through ecological thinning and prescribed fire. Using this funding, landowners in project areas may be eligible for ecological fuels reduction on their property at no cost. All treatments are voluntary.

During the Community Meeting, partners will introduce themselves, provide a brief overview of the project—including the initial area selected for treatment—and let community members know what they can expect. The first half of the meeting will conclude with a Q&A. Partners will be on hand for any follow-up conversations.

We’re excited to share more about this opportunity to do good work in and around Jacksonville to make the community safer and the ecosystem more resilient.
No RSVP necessary. We hope to see you there!
