History Hoopla at Hanley

July 2, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

It’s time for History Hoopla!

Hoopla is excitement, atmosphere, and celebration, and from 11am to 4pm on both Saturday & Sunday, July 1 & 2, History Hoopla at Hanley will offer all these things!

Guests can experience the wisdom of Indigenous Americans; visit an encampment of the Little Butte Mountain Men, the northwest’s early fur traders; pan for gold like the miners who flocked here in the mid-1850s; and enjoy a show of 1800s fashions.

And that’s just the beginning! You can take part in such 19th Century daily life activities as punching tin, spinning and weaving, and washing clothes. You can construct a model of the covered wagons that settlers used to cross the plains and you can participate in traditional children’s games. Gain insight into the Hanley’s planting, harvesting, and stock raising in what was once one of the largest agricultural empires in Southern Oregon. And interact with historical interpreters portraying Hanley family members at different times in the farm’s history.

And did we mention that there will be wagon rides, fiddle and banjo music, tours of the 19th century Hanley farmhouse, and opportunities for guests to share their own Southern Oregon family history for posterity?

Hoopla admission is $10 for adults; $5 for children 12 and under; and $25 for families (up to 5 members). SOHS members receive a 20% discount.

Join us at SOHS Hanley Farm (located at 1053 Hanley Road Hwy. 238 in Central Point, one mile east of Jacksonville) for this weekend’s retrospective of the peoples, traditions, and folkways of Southern Oregon!
